Workshop Description:

Let the cards be your guide! Whether you’ve got an unused tarot deck you’ve been eyeing with trepidation for the last three years or you’re already giving readings to your unwitting family members at Thanksgiving, this Introduction to Tarot Class will give you the tools you need to take the next steps towards inner understanding and accessing the superconscious.  Taught by the fantabulous Matthew Drewry Baker of The Hanged Man, the class will focus on learning a basic spread, interpretation techniques, and, in honor of Valentine’s Day, a special focus on a reading surrounding self-love and giving love.

Students of all levels are welcome!  Please bring your deck if you have one, or feel free to purchase a deck at the shop.  Along with our selection of beautiful artist-made decks, will have Rider-Waite decks available for purchase.  These decks are great low-cost options for beginners as they are widely referred to in Tarot literature and their images contain clues to the card meanings.  This class is limited to 12 students to ensure individual attention and maximize cosmic concentration.

NOTE: Please include your birthday (Month, Day + Year) in your notes at checkout! Matthew will use this information to provide each student with a special numerology-based Tarot card association and an in-depth description of its meaning to take home.  Thanks, Matthew!

About the Instructor:

You may have already met Matthew Drewry Baker at one of our events, where he has blessed us with his intuitive Tarot readings delivered with care and kindness.  A Bay Area native, Matthew grew up in the beautiful hills above Port Costa, roaming as a boy in these wild places that fed his imagination, giving him a sensation of hidden mysteries that were slowly being revealed. His mother recognized his connection to the magic of nature and taught him how to read a Tarot deck, a practice he returned to in earnest as an adult.  “To help people realize what the path they’ve been following truly is, what they desire, and what they hardly dare to imagine is something I find infinitely dear,” says Matthew, describing the Tarot as a “tool to navigate the contours of the soul.”

In 2013, Matthew created The Hanged Man Co, a unique business that encompasses his efforts to bring people closer to the nature of the external world through foraged flora creations, and to the nature of the internal through the Tarot and other divination rituals.  You can find Matthew on the weekends at The Hanged Man shop and studio space at the MacArthur Annex in Oakland, CA.
